Michelle Esema
My name is Michelle Esema and I am a junior Early Childhood Education major at the University of Maryland, College Park. I was part of the Diamond Debutante program in 2005-2006. Some of my fondest high school memories come from being a part of the Diamond Debutante Program. Not only did I get the opportunity to form a close bond with 10 other women, but I also gained long lasting friendship that have stood the test of time. In this program I gained personal and professional skills that have benefited me in my college career. I was mentored by women who demonstrated what it means to be a leader and a professional. This program means so much to me because I am aware that I gained experiences and received knowledge at such a transformational age. Currently I am in school working towards my degree in education, so that I can teach in one of Maryland’s public school systems. Since the program I have carried the leadership qualities instilled in me into my college experience. I am the president of the student chapter of the National Education Association and I also spend time mentoring with America Reads. I have had the opportunity to have mentors who have influenced my life in positive ways and I hope to be a mentor and an inspiration for my future students.
